Model Expo Display, Blenheim 2004

On the 9th of October 2004, members of the New Zealand Model Vehicle Club (Marlborough Branch) and the Nelson-Marlborough Truck Modeller’s Club held a combined Model Expo at the Redwoodtown Hall, Blenheim.

Setting up for the Expo began at 7:30pm for a 9:30am start and it was all hands on deck to get everything ready. With the tables set out the ten exhibitors set out their models for display. Models exhibited included trucks, race cars covering F1, Can Am, Australian V8s and rally cars, Fire Engines, Aeroplanes, Tanks and Tractors. Overall it was a very good display covering a wide range of vehicles in many different scales, both kit set and die cast.

When the show opened to the public at 9:30am there was a waiting queue and a steady stream of people came through for the rest of the day. Overall nearly 500 people came to look at the one day Expo. There were lots of positive comments made and this showed that the public had enjoyed looking at the displays. The Marlborough Branch had one new member join on the day, with several other enquiries being made.

The turnout at the public display was helped by publicity in the local Saturday paper in the form of a front-page photograph of Warren Piesse (Marlborough Branch delegate) with his Autocar Cement Mixer (MA #203, April 2003).

The two clubs hope to hold another Expo next year.
